Our teams work diligently to identify and mark the affected trees, assessing the extent of infestation and the potential for salvaging usable lumber. Priority is given to trees that can still yield viable lumber, while those extensively damaged are set aside for firewood or worst case, disposal in sanctioned burn piles.
Once the trees are felled they are transported to our mill to process the logs into usable lumber. Milling the salvaged wood helps recover valuable resources that would otherwise go to waste, while also reducing the demand for harvesting healthy trees. The lumber derived from these infested or drought-stricken trees can serve various purposes, from construction materials to furniture and artisanal crafts. By maximizing the utilization of the wood, Mountain Dog Millworks strives to find economic value in the midst of environmental challenges, promoting sustainable practices and reducing the impact on healthy forest ecosystems.
