Why Our Local Tehachapi Slabs Rival California’s Biggest Wood Suppliers
At Mountain Dog Millworks, we believe that size doesn’t always determine quality. While some of California’s largest wood slab suppliers boast massive inventories and national reach, we offer something they often can’t: handcrafted care, hyper-local sourcing, and a deep connection to the land.
Locally Grown, Sustainably Harvested
Our slabs come directly from responsibly harvested trees on our Tehachapi mountain estate. This means:
- Zero mass logging
- Sustainable forest management
- Low transportation footprint
- Transparent origins
You know exactly where your wood came from. Our pine, redwood, fir, and red oak are selected, milled, kiln-dried, and finished entirely in-house.
Artisan-Milled, Not Factory-Processed
Unlike industrial operations, every slab we create is handcrafted by seasoned woodworkers who understand the story of each tree. We offer:
- Live edge slabs with rich character
- Custom sizing to fit your vision
- Bookmatching and grain orientation guidance
- Finishing and epoxy services available
Our team doesn’t just sell slabs—we collaborate with builders, makers, and designers.
Kiln-Dried for Stability
All our slabs are professionally kiln-dried to industry standards, ensuring:
- Minimal movement or cracking
- Furniture-ready moisture levels
- Long-term structural integrity
Many big-box suppliers sell air-dried or semi-processed slabs. At Mountain Dog Millworks, we deliver consistency from tree to table.
Personalized Service You Won’t Get at a Mega-Warehouse
When you work with us, you’re not just another order number. We offer:
- One-on-one slab selection by appointment
- Project consulting for builders and designers
- Local delivery options
- In-shop pickup or shipping options tailored to your needs
We take pride in helping our customers find exactly the right piece of wood for their project.
