Wood Slab & Custom Milling FAQ | Mountain Dog Millworks
Fill out the Custom Order Form with a brief description of your project, including what you want to build and how it will be used. This helps us understand the scope and recommend the right materials and approach.
Many of the pieces you see in our archive galleries are one-of-a-kind creations that have already found their forever homes. We keep these sold items visible because they serve as design inspiration and a starting point for your own custom project.
How Ordering a Sold Item Works (Step-by-Step)
- Browse Our Archive Pages
Archive pages showcase previously sold tables, slabs, furniture, and custom builds. These examples help you visualize styles, proportions, wood species, and finishes that are possible. - Select a Sold Design You Love
When an item is marked SOLD, you’ll see a custom order form attached directly to that listing. This ensures you don’t lose the design while exploring options. - Submit the Custom Order Form
The form allows you to request a custom-made version inspired by that piece. You can specify:- Wood species
- Dimensions
- Finish and color
- Base or hardware options
- Any modifications or personal touches
- We Build It Just for You
Once your request is submitted, we review the details and work with you to confirm feasibility, pricing, and timeline. Your piece is then handcrafted to order in our workshop using kiln-dried, sustainably sourced timber.
Why This Matters
- Every piece is unique – no mass production
- Full customization based on your space and style
- Proven designs you can trust, already crafted and loved by past clients
If you see something in our archives that speaks to you, don’t let the “SOLD” label stop you. That item is simply the starting point for your own custom creation.
Include wood species, approximate dimensions, finish preferences, and any special design notes. The more detail you provide, the more accurate your quote and timeline will be.

Mountain Dog Millworks is a boutique woodworking and millworks shop based in the mountains of Tehachapi, California. We specialize in handcrafted, custom wood creations — from live edge slabs to finished furniture. Every piece is handmade in our workshop using locally sourced, responsibly harvested timber.
Kiln drying reduces moisture content, which prevents cracking, warping, and pests. Unlike air-dried wood, our kiln-dried slabs are stable, ready to work with, and built to last.
All timber comes from our own mountain estate and nearby local sources. We only use responsibly and sustainably harvested wood, milled and kiln-dried on-site.
- Custom slabs in pine, red oak, fir, and redwood
- Live edge furniture (tables, benches, countertops, islands)
- Charcuterie boards, cutting boards, and small handcrafted items
- Specialty millwork made to order
